7 arraigned over transport unions’ clash in Kwara

The police have arraigned seven operators of tricycle over their involvement in the violent clash at Oloje/Oko Olowo axis of Ilorin, Kwara State, last week.

The defendants, Babatunde Akande (23), Soliu Azeez (23), Lukuman Issa (20), Saheed Jamiu (22), Abdulkadir Abdulsalam (23), Abdulrasheed Abdulkadir (20) and Adebayo Afeez (20), were charged with offences bordering on disturbance of public peace and mischief.

According to the charge sheet, some hoodlums suspected to be members of NURTW, RTEAN and TOAN in Oko-Olowo area engaged in a mayhem after a fight erupted between a tricycle rider and a commercial driver.

The defense counsel, Barr Abdullahi Sulaiman, pleaded with the court to grant his clients bail, which was objected to by the prosecutor, DSP Innocent.

The magistrate, Ajia, granted the defendants bail and adjourned the case to May 19.
