Notable veteran golfers, including former ambassadors, will make up the list of 64 players expected at the inaugural GolfSixes Nigeria event.
The event’s Chief Organiser, Ekanem Ekwueme, disclosed that the golf competition will tee-off today and end tomorrow at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club (IGRCC) in Abuja.

The former president of Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria said the competition is for players aged 55 and above
”Some of those in this group include Olusegun Runsewe, the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Adamu Emozozo and Hassan Mohammed, who are both former ambassadors.
”We will also have the likes of Ahmed Oseni, the immediate-past captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, and Bello Arabi, a past captain of Kaduna Golf Club,” Ekwueme said.
She explained that the Abuja event of GolfSixes Nigeria 2021 will see the 64 senior players placed in 16 teams and involved in match play.
According to her, there will be 16 registered teams, four players per team and four groups.
“After every six holes of play, a winner emerges, and at the end of the opening day, the winners advance to the final on Sunday, when we will have other entertaining activities such as the Valentine Day Special, presentation of trophies and an evening of music,” she added.
She explained further that: “In our quest to recognize our senior players, especially those who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Golf, we decided to dedicate this GOLFSIXES Nigeria inaugural tournament to them.
“We strongly believe that our senior players can still swing.”
Ekwueme also disclosed that the other three events of the inaugural GolfSixes Nigeria will hold in Port Harcourt in March, Aba in August and Ikeja in September.
