The official death toll of Nigerian pilgrims at the Mina, Saudi Arabia deadly stampede has now risen to 64.

Spokesman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Mallam Uba Mana disclosed this in Makkah on Tuesday. 

He said 71 were injured while 244 were still missing.

More than 700 pilgrims died in the stampede last Thursday as they proceeded to the Jamarat to perform the symbolic stoning of the devil, near Mina, Saudi Arabia. More than 800 were injured.

"We have 64 Nigerians dead from the stampede, 71 injured and 244 still missing. Out of those that died, 48 are from the States Pilgrims Welfare Board, 12 from tour operators. Those that are missing 226 are from states pilgrims’ board and 18 from tour operators,” Mana said.
