A 62-year-old man, Matthew Malik, was killed on his farm by gunmen in Oye-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The deceased’s son, John Malik, who spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, said  his father was allegedly killed over a misunderstanding he had with an unnamed person regarding the farm.

According to him, his father went to the farm in the morning, but never returned to resume his shift in the university where he was a security guard.

“My dad is a security man at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE).

“He was scheduled to go to work in the afternoon and decided to visit his farm in the morning.

“It was people from the university that called us to know why he was yet to resume at his duty post.

“Immediately, we went to the farm and we found him dead.

“There is this man he had issues with as regards the farm and we are suspecting he might have masterminded the killing of our father.”

John demanded justice for the death of this father, adding that the family would not allow the case to be swept under the carpet.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the killing, saying the command had commenced investigation to unravel the killers.

“Yes I can confirm the man was attacked on his farm, and we have started an investigation into the unfortunate act. \

“We will ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law so as to serve as deterrent to others planning such dastardly acts,” Abutu said.
