A 60-year-old man at Gaida Yankusa area of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State has reportedly committed suicide.

The corpse of the man was found hanging on a tree on Wednesday morning, according to residents.

Some of them, who spoke off record, said they found the man’s corpse while they were heading for the mosque to observe morning prayer.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Laminu Abubakar, one of the residents, said they were the ones who untied the man.

He added that they had done everything possible to identify him, to no avail.

“We just came out and saw the corpse on the tree. At that time, it had even started to stiffen and we couldn’t identify who he was and where he came from.

“He was an elderly person; he looked responsible and showed no sign of poverty. Maybe some other issues made him take his life. His hair was grey from his head to his beard.”

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue at Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital in Kano.

Efforts to get comments from the district head of Kumbotso, Bala Isah, proved abortive as his line was not reachable.

Confirming the incident, the Kano Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the police received the report of the tragedy around 9am and immediately mobilized a team to the scene.
