6 more abducted students have been rescued – Kogi govt

The Kogi State Government has said six more of the kidnapped students of Confluence University of Science and Technology(CUSTECH), Osara, have been rescued.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kinsley Fanwo, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lokoja.

The Kogi state police command had said 24 students were believed to have been abducted in last Thursday attack on the institution.

The police authorities also added that 14 of the abducted students were rescued after a fierce battle with their abductors in a bush at Obajana at the weekend.

The latest effort (record) has therefore brought the number of rescued students in the said attack to 20.

“Our data shows that there are four students yet to be found. Nine students had been rescued first, while five others were found in the following morning.

“The families of the six students just rescued have confirmed that the students have arrived home,” he said.

According to the statement, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has expressed appreciation to the Joint security Forces that carried out the operations, urging them to continue the search until the last student is found.

However, the state government has assured member of the public that “the security architecture around the schools in the state has been recalibrated for efficiency and early warning alarm to prevent future occurrence”.
