No fewer than six people have been killed and many others injured in cult wars in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Bariga area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the resumption of killings in Abeokuta by the cultists was to mark the one year remembrance of a popular area boy, Tommy, in Oluwo area of Abeokuta.

Tommy, said to be a leader of the Eiye cult group, was killed on March 24, 2022, at Panseke.

Many were killed between March and April last year in the superiority clashes that ensued between the two cult groups.

Exactly a year after Tommy was killed, a young man was shot dead at Panseke by yet-to-be-identified persons while returning from the Computer Village at Ibara Roundabout.

It was gathered that a kid belonging to a trader was also hit by a stray bullet fired by the gunmen and also died.

Also on Tuesday, another young man was shot dead at Araromi, behind the Navy Boys Secondary School in Abeokuta.

The police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said the police were strategising on how to arrest the situation as quickly as possible.

In the Lagos clash, three members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities were said to have lost their lives in a renewed cult clash that erupted yesterday in the Bariga area of the state.

Yesterday’s incident was said to be a mission to avenge the killing of a member of Aiye by a rival group.

It was learnt that members of Eiye hacked down one Lekan Omoekun along Kajola Street in the area last week.

Sources said the deceased was a younger brother to the hitman of Aiye group. The source alleged that Lekan was killed by a member of Eiye identified as Moses alias Loworo on Tapa Street, on March 16.

Our correspondent also gathered that two other members of Eiye had been killed earlier in similar circumstances.

The source said it was the killing of the two cult members that led to the attack on Lekan.

Calls and text messages sent to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, on the incident were not answered as of press time.
