Vehicles involved in the crashes were identified as a Mitsubishi Canter marked XS595JJJ, Mazda Bus E2000 with registration number LSR266YD and another Mazda E2000 Bus marked LND01YE.
The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Monday.
She identified overspeeding, dangerous driving and loss of control, due to wrong turning, as the suspected causes of the multiple crashes.
Okpe, who is the Public Education Officer of the FRSC, explained that the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter was navigating a turning without observing the road, while the driver of the Mazda bus lost control of the wheels, leading to a crash.
The FRSC spokesperson disclosed that a total number of 38 people were involved in the accident, out of which six died while 12 others sustained injuries.
Okpe said the injured victims were rescued to the state’s hospital in Abeokuta for medical attention, while the corpses have been deposited at the morgue of the facility.
