Kamala Devi Harris is set to assume office as the U. S Vice- President when she is inaugurated on January 20, 2021.
She is known as a member of the U.S Senate, but here are the 6 things that make Kamala Harris more interesting.

1. She is the first Female Vice- President.
She now holds record as the highest ranking female official in the United States, after successfully becoming the Vice- President Elect, alongside Joe Biden, the President-elect.
2. She is Mixed-ish.
She was born to immigrant parents. She has both Indian and African origins. She is therefore the first African-American woman and first Asian-American woman to become the Vice- President of the United States.
3. A remarkable lawyer.
Served as district attorney of San Francisco and California, before joining the Senate. Harris held several notable positions including Vice- President National District Attorneys Board of Directors.
She was mentioned in 2008 as one of the 34 Attorneys of the Year by the California Lawyer Magazine.
She was named amongst the 100 most influential people in 2013 by Times. She has many other awards and has held numerous positions in recognition of her legal prowess.
4. Campaigned against Proposition 21
In 2000, when Harris was an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting crimes of homicide, burglary, robbery and sexual assault, she kicked against a proposition that would have allowed prosecutors to try juvenile offenders at higher courts instead of juvenile courts.
5. Creating Open Justice
One of her significant accomplishment as an attorney, was creating an online platform for justice data to be available to the public. The platform displayed information on the number of deaths and injuries of those in police custody. This increased police accountability.
6. She reads fiction
Among some of her favourite books are Khaleed Hosseini’s The Kite Runner and Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon.
