6 hours late, PDP convention stalls over horse-trades, intrigues

There is tension in Port Harcourt, as the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is yet to commence.

The convention was  originally supposed to start by 10:am, but due to what some party stalwarts called intrigues and horse-trading, it is yet to commence in earnest at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium.

However,  the venue of the convention is adorned with the PDP colours and the Outside Broadcasting Vans (OBV) already positioned with video cameras for live broadcast of the programme.

Daily Trust findings revealed that several meetings are going on among the aspirants themselves and between the aspirants and other organs of the PDP to ostensibly, reach a consensus.

However, some party chieftains told our correspondent that the meetings were not likely to produce a consensus candidate,  adding that some aspirants were only likely to step down for others to slug it out at the primaries.

“Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is appealing to other aspirants to step down for him. But you see,  this is a difficult one,” he said.

According to him, the delay to commence the programme was to settle all issues to ensure that there would be no post-convention crisis in the party.
