6 arrested for beating DPO

Detectives in Lagos have arrested six persons for allegedly beating a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ikorodu, Lagos State while he was on his way to perform his official duty.

 The suspect – two women and four men – are Kehinde Alimot, 40; Bukola Ahmed, 32; Ifeanyi Kanu, 22; Owolabi Ibrahim, 39; Aikulola Olamiji, 54; and Jamiu Yussuf, 39.

 The police prosecutor, Sergeant Mary Ajiteru, told the Ikorodu magistrate’s court that the accused committed the offences on October 26, 2017 along Agunfoye Road, Igbogbo in Ikorodu at about 12.45a.m.

 Ajiteru said the accused battered their victim, Superintendent of Police Issah Lawal of the Igbogbo police station.

 The suspects were yesterday arraigned before Magistrate A.B. Adelabu-Olagbegi on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assault and causing a breach of the peace.  They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

 Adelabu-Olagbegi, thereafter, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, the magistrate directed, must be house owners within the magisterial district and must also show evidence of three years tax payment.

 She adjourned the case until December 14, 2017 for trial.
