57 arraigned over rape in Kano

The Kano State Police Command yesterday arraigned 57 suspected rapists including a 65-year old man before two state Magistrates’ Courts for allegedly defiling over 57 teenage girls.
The suspected rapists who are between 17 and 65 years, were arrested within the past three weeks in a new campaign declared by the state command against rape.
Addressing newsmen after the arraignment, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Musa Katsina, said the command declared a war against increasing rape cases.
The commissioner added that some of the hapless victims who are mostly teenagers were infected with HIV/AIDs while others were  receiving treatment in various hospitals.
“Over 57 innocent children have fallen victim of these inhuman acts. As a parent, I am worried by the excessive cases of rape across the state. There is case of a man who was arrested after he defiled 10 boys, we launched a campaign against rapists to get rid of such miscreants”, he said.
Musa Katsina urged parents to monitor their children to protect them from being victims, especially those sending their children to hawk on the streets. He said the police had conducted thorough investigations before taking the suspects to court for prosecution.
