55-year-old surety faces trial over suspect’s escape

A 55-year-old man, Godwin Chika Ude, has been arrested by the Zone 2 police headquarters in Lagos for allegedly aiding the escape of an accused person.

The accused person, Daro Imoukhuede, was alleged to have obtained the sum of N3 million by false pretences at the Zonal Criminal Investigation Zone 2 headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

Ude allegedly committed the offence sometime in November 2017 at Zone 2 police headquarters, Lagos, when he applied for bail for Imoukhuede and undertook to produce him on demand until the case against the accused person was disposed of, or he would forfeit N1m to the government.

But Ude ran into a problem when he was unable to produce Imoukhuede on the dates the latter’s presence was required by the police and  could not produce the N1 million bail bond.

The investigation police officer, Steve Onihana, said that Ude would soon be charged to court.
