55 women, youths trained on condiment, legumes processing

A total of 55 women and youths from Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State have received training at the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, on condiment making and legumes processing.

The training, organised by the Member Representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad (Babawo), is aimed at ensuring that the participants become self-reliant as well as boost economic activities in the area.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Zaria, Alhaji Garba-Datti said the participants would be trained on condiment making, legumes processing, poultry and  fish farming among others.

The lawmaker, represented by Alhaji Abdulkadir-Baba Mohammed, said the 55 beneficiaries would each receive a starter pack to be determined by the training received by each participant.

The Chief Facilitator of the training, Amina-Lawal Baidu, said the participants would receive extensive practical training on condiment making such as spices.

She said they would also be trained on processing of legumes such as beans, groundnut and soya beans.

Earlier, Prof. Emmanuel Ikanni, Executive Director of NAERLS, commended the lawmaker for the training and urged the participants to take maximum advantage from the exercise.

Ikanni, who was represented by the Assistant Director of NAERLS, Prof. Paul Bolorunduro, urged other lawmakers to emulate Garba-Datti by empowering women and youths to reduce the high rate of unemployment and poverty in the country.
