About 500 women, young farmers and agric-preneurs have been equipped with commodity standout and commodity grading skills for competitive marketing of their produce.
Speaking at a regional workshop on inclusiveness organised by the Nigerian Agric Business Group (NABG) in Kaduna over the weekend, the Director General of NABG, Dr Manzo Mairiga, said the aim of the workshop was to sensitise and educate participants on the challenges of climate change which is the most critical challenge that farming receives across Africa and even across the world.
He said the workshop, which is being funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as federal and state governments of the participating states, will educate participants on commodity standouts, best practices in farming and commodities grading “which will give them competitiveness advantage when it comes to marketing their products.”
“Most times we find out that we do not care about best practices, we don’t care about standards and we don’t care about grading and that makes our farmers lose a lot of money.

“The thrust of the workshop is to first achieve inclusiveness, which is why it is particularly targeted at women. Secondly it is to sensitise and educate them on climate smart agriculture to combat the impacts of climate change and build resilience. And thirdly, it is to sensitise them on best practices in commodity standards and grading,” he said.
