500 runners to feature in Makurdi 20km marathon

At least, 500 runners are expected to participate in the second edition of the Tito Yoghurt sponsored Makurdi Marathon.

Managing Director of Tito Group of Companies, Chief Isaac Akinkumi, made this known at a press briefing in Makurdi.

Akinkumi disclosed that the event scheduled for February 29, 2020, would draw participants from across the country and other parts of the world.

“The essence of the competition is to divert attention of the youth from cultism and crime. This is because competitive sports will disengage their minds from youthful restlessness,” he said.

He said interested participants could register free of charge in person or online, adding that the prize money for the competition would be very attractive.

Also speaking, the Technical Director of Benue State Sports Council, Hyacinth Eneji, who lauded the initiative by Akinkumi, urged Tito company to sustain the annual event.

Eneji called on government and corporate organisations to support the event through sponsorship.

The Technical Director also said the 20km race would kick start at the Tito Gate corporate headquarters through the Government House, Wadata, High Level, Wurukum, the Air Force Base junction along Gboko road and back to the take off point.
