The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development have under the ministry’s economic empowerment/psycho-social support for women scheme trained and empowered fifty Vesico-Viginal Fistula (VVF) patients who have undergone stages of repairs with N30, 000 each.

Addressing the beneficiaries during the training and empowerment program held in Kano, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Nasir Sani Gwarzo, revealed that VVF as a problem of under-development with too many consequences is a serious issue that needs sustainable management adding that the best way to address the issue is by putting in place appropriate integrated development programmes that are sustainable and community-based.

He explained that to achieve a sustainable way of addressing the issue of VVF, the ministry has resolved to train patients in various skills acquisitions as well as to empower them with a starter pack of N30, 000 for each trained patient for easy integration into their various communities as well as for them to be self-reliant.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Aisha Magaji who claimed to have gone through several operations revealed that they were trained in perfume making, tailoring, groundnut oil extraction, and animal husbandry among others.

She also gave the assurance that beneficiaries will make good use of the training they received as well as a judicial utilization of the starter packs.
