The police in Kano State have arrested four suspects for kidnapping a five-year-old boy, Hamza Harisu, demanding N20 million and killing him.

The command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said they received a report on October 28, 2022, from a resident of Doguwa LGA, that his son was kidnapped and a ransom of N20m was demanded and that they later negotiated at N5m but that they couldn’t deliver the said amount to the kidnappers.

Kiyawa further said that, “On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Abubakar Lawal, raised a team of Operation Restore Peace, led by CSP Bala Shu’aibu, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Doguwa Division, to arrest the culprit(s).”

He said sustained effort, coupled with intelligence-led follow-up, led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Ado Ibrahim (29) of Yantama village, Doguwa LGA, along with three others, at his hideout.

“On preliminary investigation, the suspect, Ado Ibrahim, confessed that he single-handedly kidnapped the victim on 27/10/2022 at about 1900 hours when it was dark. He deceived the victim, took him to a nearby bush and strangled him to death.

“Later, a corpse was discovered by a team of police detectives and removed to Doguwa General Hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead.”

He said that disgruntled youths went for a reprisal and subsequently burnt down the houses of the arrested suspects, adding that discreet investigation had commenced.
