Five women made the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) provisional list to vie for the three senatorial seats in Niger State.
The list which was unveiled on Friday in Minna has Hajiya Hadiza Mhmuda Kuta of All Grassroots Alliance(AGA) and Zainab Kolawole Idris, National Conscience Party (NCP) to struggle with their male counterparts for the Niger East senatorial district seat.
In Niger south senatorial district, Safiya Baba Mohammed of Green Party of Nigeria(GPN) and Hajiya Binta Mohammed of People’s Trust (PT) made the list, while Bilikusu Musa Alheri would contest for the Niger North senatorial district on the platform of Green Party of Nigeria(GPN).
The list shows that 16 political parties would file candidates for the senatorial seats with a total of 31 contestants making the INEC list.
Among the contestants, 11 would slug it out for the Niger east seat, while Niger south and North have 10 contestants each.
Daily Trust observed that two out of the three sitting senators made the lists for their respective senatorial district on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
They include the chairman of Senate Committee on judiciary and human rights, Senator David Umaru representing Niger east and Senator Abdullahi Sabi, chairman Senate Committee oN Information representing Niger north.
However, Senator Mustapha Sani representing Niger south failed to get the return ticket on the platform of APC in the just concluded senatorial primary.
