Some of them include Sam Omatseye’s ‘Obito’, Victor Oritsetimeyin Okotie’s ‘The Professors Lineage’, Areta Nwosu’s ‘An Unexpected Match’, Olukorede Yishau’s ‘In the Name of Our Father’, and Ugochukwu Chinye-Ikejiunor’s ‘Sight in the Dark’.
Omatseye’s ‘Obito’
In ‘Obito’, readers are given a taste of a different kind of game of thrones. The Nigerian kind. There’s a death, and it’s no other than that of a Benin King. Then there’s a cover-up, after all the death isn’t from natural causes and it’s a king who’s involved. The drama has just begun, and we are taken through conspiracies, the role of the media and the people’s tradition. Ultimately, the question is, “Who did the deed, and why?”
Okotie’s ‘The Professors’ Lineage’
An inspiring tale is always good for the soul, you may agree. This is the case with ‘The Professors’ Lineage’.
Every young person usually has a dream, at least at some point in his or her life. Here, our central character, Jeff Uwala does. But life isn’t always fair, and it certainly isn’t for him when he’s left homeless as a result of an inferno. So, life is hard. But still, there’s the dream, and the question is simply, how this young man will make it happen. Will he let the past dictate the future? Perhaps not. Find out how.
Nwosu’s ‘An Unexpected Match’
How would you look wanting a man for yourself when you are saddled with the responsibility of picking out ‘the perfect match’ for him? One, you are trusted, and two, you are given a responsibility. So, it isn’t entirely easy to admit you want the throne for yourself, is it? So, what do you do? You scheme, perhaps, or sabotage your own efforts?
In ‘An Unexpected Match’, there’s breath-taking adventure, and of course, romance. And guess what? The subject of this controversy has ended 6 relationships and broken off two engagements.
Yishau’s ‘In the Name of Our Father’
This title almost sounds like a prayer and seems to give away the theme of this novel. But you may never really know until you meet the characters within. There’s a prophet who makes his work only a channel to his belly. But again, there’s an uncompromising journalist that represents those who refuse to let go of what is right even in a country as challenging as Nigeria. Written by Yishau, a journalist himself, ‘In the name of Our Father’ x-rays the place of religion in today’s society.
Chinye-Ikejiunor’s ‘Sight in the Dark’
Released in March, this work of fiction is probably nothing like anything you have ever read. There comes a point in a teacher’s life where he is likely to wonder if he practices the lessons he has been passing down passionately. This is the case with Obinna. He is a wealthy motivational speaker who is invited for a presentation in Lagos, but the journey will change his life and that of his family.
