5 Nigerian hotels with international franchise

Nigeria’s hospitality industry has transformed into a versatile sector that caters for the needs of a diverse range of travelers, including corporate executives, tourists and locals seeking one form or the other of relaxation.

The hospitality sector has been highlighted with prospects of contributing significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the Nigerian hospitality outlook from 2019 to 2024, projects a robust 12% growth over the next five years.

Transcorp Hilton Hotel

Transcorp Hilton is a luxurious 5-star hotel sited in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, located within a stone’s throw from the Three Arms Zone, which houses the National Assembly, the Supreme Court and the Presidential Villa. The hotel is the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp Group), one of Nigeria’s largest conglomerates, with Tony Elumelu as the majority stakeholder.

Hilton Hotel has global brands in the United States, UK, France, and the Netherlands, among others.

There are about 584 Hilton Hotels & Resorts’ properties in 94 countries located across six continents.

Marriot Hotel

Marriott Hotel is one of Nigeria’s household names in the hospitality industry due to its classic, exquisite services.

Located at 122 Joel Ogunnaike Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, Marriott International bears the heritage of its founders, J. Willard and Alice Marriott, whose family legacy has guided the company since its inception in 1927.

Hotel Marriott International has a significant global presence, with hotel branches located in 141 countries and territories.

The brands worldwide offer travelers a wide range of options for accommodations – from luxury resorts to budget-friendly hotels – across the globe.

Radisson Blu Hotels

Radisson Blu Hotels is another five-star hotel in Nigeria that offers top-notch services to its customers and guests.

With multiple outlets, its Ikeja outlet is located at 38-40 Isaac John Street, Lagos, and its Radisson Blu Anchorage outlet on 1a Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island.

This establishment is under the purview of Avalon Intercontinental Nigeria, managed by Radisson Hotels, a global hospitality conglomerate with an extensive portfolio of 1,440 operational hotels spanning 115 countries – with roots dating back to 1960.

Sheraton Hotel 

The Sheraton Hotel chain has a rich history spanning over 90 years. 

Currently, one Sheraton Hotel in Nigeria is located in Lagos. The Sheraton Lagos Hotel is a 4-star hotel situated near the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos. The other, which is called Four Points by Sheraton, is a brand by Marriott International, Inc.

Sheraton Hotel has global branches in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Aside from Nigeria, it also has presence in the heart of Pretoria, South Africa.

Meanwhile, the Sheraton Abuja Hotel was renamed as Abuja Continental Hotel, its owners, Capital Hotels Plc, announced the name change in a regulatory filing in September 2023.

The disclosure marks the first corporate action by Capital Hotels since it was acquired by 22 Hospitality Limited in late September, a deal that sold a controlling stake of 66.1 per cent in the company to the latter. That is equivalent to 2.1 billion ordinary shares.

Bank of Industry Limited, Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Nigeria Re-insurance Corporation and Continental Energy Resources Limited are among the substantial shareholders of Capital Hotels, according to its 2021 audited financial statement.

Fraser Suites

The hotel is a ten-storey property which was developed and promoted by Nasco Group in partnership with Fraser Suites, a leading international serviced apartments provider. As expected, the hotel is deluxe, with lots of state-of-the-art facilities put in place to ensure the comfort of business travelers in Nigeria’s capital city. It has a total of 126 guest rooms

Fraser Suites also has a global presence in several countries, including Australia, China, India, Scotland, UK, UAE among others.
