Five men have been arraigned before an Ilorin magistrates’ court in Kwara State over their involvement in a clash between the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) and the Atunluse vigilantes which left a member of OPC, Taofeek Soliu, dead at the Alagbado/Amule/Okelele area of Kwara State.
The suspects are Wahab Akeem, Bashira Abdulazeez, Daud Sandu, Bello Quadri and Abdulrasheed Wahab.
The prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, told the court that an OPC member, Wahaab Akeem, who was building a house in the community was accosted by vigilantes and asked to pay N17,000 as “owo ile”.
Ayeni said, “But when Akeem declined that he was not under their jurisdiction, this led to a fracas and Akeem invited other OPC members who then attacked the vigilantes.
Ayeni urged the court to remand the suspects, which was countered by the defence counsel, Prof AbdulKadir Abikan.
The Magistrate, Monisola Gbadeyan Kamson, remanded the suspects and adjourned the case to November 15, 2022.
