5 killed in renewed cult clash in Edo

Five persons have been reportedly killed by rival groups in a renewed cult clash in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

It was gathered that the cult clash started on January 1st and lingered till 3rd, 2021.

It was further gathered that two persons were shot dead in the Oluku Area, two killed at Adolor College Area in Ugbowo while one other was shot dead at Ahunwan Street, Ugbowo quarters.

Edo Police Spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached for comment on the cult-related killings as his phone was unavailable at the time of filing this report.

In a related development, the Edo State Police Command said it has begun manhunt for the remaining eight criminal suspects, who escaped from police detention.

The command, in a statement by its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said 10 suspects escaped from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) but that two of them have been rearrested.
