The awardees were Ibrahim Maishunku, Zainab Idris and Sadiya Mohammed. Others are Al-Amin Ciroma and Baballe Hayatu. One of the recipients, Ibrahim Maishunku, who was exhilarated, told Sunday Trust he feels honoured by the gesture. “This is a great achievement for me.  I thank Lavonne for recognising my effort,” he said. Maishunku was the principle actor in the popular Hausa movie Jamila da Jamilu, which still tops the chart in the Hausa film rating.

Zainab Idris, who was awarded the best actress award for her role in the film Hafsat, expressed delight at the award saying it would spur her to greater height.

“It has made me realize my hidden talents and have a better hope in future because I will not relent as I plan to play more intelligent and interesting roles that will not only gain me more awards but more respect for the industry as a whole. Not just Zainab, but Hausa films in general will, insha Allah, reach greater heights,” she said.

Lavonne Cele-Tawo, the organiser of the award and publisher of Best Moment Magazine said she was spurred into organising the awards by her sheer passion to honour artistes that have contributed immensely to the movie industry but have not been recognised. “It is not how popular their faces are on the TV, but for the fact that without their initial contribution to the movie industry, Nollywood will not be where it is today. So those are the people we look back into history to honour for bringing about this money spinning industry,”Lavonne said.

Other artistes honoured are Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey and Theodore Orji amongst others. The criterion for winning the award, the organisers said, is for the artiste to have spent a minimum of 10 years in the industry.

Similarly, some women that have contributed to nation building through their selfless contribution were honoured as well.  The award tagged Great Female Nationalist Awards was given to Senator Joy Emodi, Hajiya Titi Atiku, Hajiya Maimuna Aliyu, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Dr Karimat Sani amongst others. The Best Moment Magazine is an annual event.
