Five people allegedly involved in illegal tax collection have been apprehended by a team of security agencies at three locations in Ushongo and Vandeikya LGAs of Benue State.
The arrests were said to be a follow up to the multiple operations against illegal roadblocks across the state by a task force team constituted by Governor Hyacinth Alia and led by the acting Executive Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Emmanuel Agema.
The media aide to the BIRS Chairman, Jacintha Benard, on Monday, said that the taskforce team, comprising operatives of the police and the civil defence, arrested the five culprits.
She explained that that at one of the locations in Akerior in Ushongo LGA, the security operatives discovered a house where the touts rented a room which they used as their base.

She said cooking items, clothes, mosquito nets, a register book, receipt booklets bearing “Benue Associates of Tiv Beranda Co”, among other items, were found there and confiscated.
She added that the illegal checkpoints were dismantled and destroyed.
