5 die in Lagos-Ibadan expressway multiple crash

Five persons died while two others sustained injuries in a road crash involving four vehicles around Iperu axis on Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday.

The crash involved a Mack truck marked UWN 279 YT; Iveco truck number AAB 973 ZY, a tricycle marked PKA 438 UN and another with registration number LSD 566 QF.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in the state, Ahmed Umar, confirmed the accident, which occurred around 8:45 am was caused by dangerous driving and excessive speed which led to loss of control.

Umar said 10 people were involved in the accident out of which five men died, leaving one man and a woman with injuries.

The FRSC boss explained that all the dead were occupants of the tricycle.

Umar disclosed that the remains of four of the deceased had been deposited at the Fakoya private morgue in Sagamu.

He said the fifth dead person and the two injured were taken by relatives.

While commiserating with the families of the victims, the sector commander urged them to contact the command in Sagamu for details of the crash and reclaim the properties of the victims recovered from the crash scene.
