Five people died yesterday in an auto crash on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
The accident which occurred around 6.10 pm on the bridge inward Iyana Oworo by UNILAG Waterfront, involved three vehicles: a Lagos State mass transit bus, a Hilux truck belonging to a local vigilantee group and a Rover jeep.
Those who died included three female adults and two children: one female and one male while five persons who were injured were taken to the state trauma centre.
Daily Trust correspondent who arrived the scene of the accident around 7 pm, reports that the Jeep and the Hilux Pick Up which were on top speed rammed into the stationery mass transit bus with Lagos registration number EKY 970 XT.
The victims who died in the badly damaged Hilux Vehicle were returning from a wedding ceremony on Lagos Island when the accident occurred, it was learnt.
Witness accounts revealed that the Jeep without a number plate first rammed into the coaster bus when it was hit by the oncoming Hilux.
Among the injured, it was learnt, was the groom’s father.
Emergency agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) were mobilized to the scene.
The LASEMA General Manager Mr. Michael Akindele said the bodies of the dead victims had been deposited at the Lagos Mainland Hospital mortuary.
