5 dead, 2 others injured in Kano fatal crash

Five people died while two others sustained injuries in a fatal accident involving a golf Volkswagen car and a tricycle (Adai Daita Sahu) along Kwanar Dumawa-Kunya road in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State.

The accident, which occurred on Tuesday, involved passengers travelling to nearby villages.

Confirming the incident, a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)’s Sector Commandant, Zubairu Mato, said the accident occurred as a result of overspeeding.

He said the five people (four males and a female) lost their lives while the two who sustained injuries are males.

According to him, after receiving a report of the accident, his team in Minjibir office arrived at the scene and took the victims to Minjibir and Danbatta general hospitals where the doctor confirmed five dead.

The two injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, he added.

“We received a call at about 1:05pm on Tuesday. On receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene of the incident for the rescue of the victims at 1:10pm as well as clearing the obstructions.

“Upon arrival in the hospital, the doctor on duty confirmed five dead among the victims,” Mato said.

He added that the two vehicles involved are Volkswagen (Golf) with registration number DUT449 CZ and Bajaj Tricycle with registration number GWL 51 WG.

Last week, a similar accident occurred in the same Kano North axis. Five students from the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education lost their lives while several others were injured.
