5 children of FCT Miyetti Allah chair, 4 farmers injured in farmers, herders clash

Five children of the FCT chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Wakili Mudugu, were reportedly injured following farmers and herders clash in the Gwako community in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A farmer in Gwako, Danjuma Saleh, said the incident happened on Saturday after some cows allegedly invaded a farm belonging to some natives of the community and destroyed crops in the area.

He said trouble started when owners of the farms discovered that crops had been destroyed by the cows, a situation which he said resulted to a clash between the children of the Miyetti Allah chairman and the farmers.

He said one of the herders allegedly pulled out a machete and inflicted injuries on one of the farmers, adding that the farmers also retaliated in the process.

He said tension broke out after the attack on the farmers and his colleague mobilised and trailed the herders to their settlement at the village and retaliated.

He said five children of the Miyetti Allah chairman and four farmers sustained machetes injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The chairman of the MACBAN in the FCT, Alhaji Wakili Mudugu, could not be reached for comment as his phone was switched off as at the time of filing the report.

But the spokesman for MACBAN in the FCT, Ahmed Dahiru, confirmed the incident, even as he said the MACBAN chairman was in a meeting.

He urged our reporter to call back in two hours’ time after the meeting in order to get details of the incident.

The spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said the command was not aware of the incident, but said she would find out from the DPO in charge of Gwagwalada Police Division and get back.
