2018 has been filled with Nollywood productions that have broken box office records and set new standards in the international movie scene as well. As the year comes to a close, Weekend Magazine compiles the top-grossing movies of the year.
The Ghost and the Tout
Making an impressive N80 million, the story of Toyin Abraham’s character who ends up meeting a ghost and throws her life into chaos became very popular with movie lovers. The film also starred Biodun Stephen and Chioma Omeruah.
King of Boys
This movie saw the on screen mother and daughter duo of Adesua Etomi and Sola Sobowale work together again on ‘King of Boys’ Kemi Adetiba once again brought her magic to the big screen in this production that racked in a whooping N100 million.
Merry Men
The guy flick of the year tops the list by making N230 million in the box office. The ensemble cast of AY, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke and Falz definitely made this movie hit of the year.
Royal Hibiscus Hotel
RBH was a stunning production with superb acting from newcomers, Zainab Balogun and Kenneth Okoli. The effort put into the movie paid off as it needed up making N59 million at the box office, cementing their status as A-list actors in Nollywood.
Moms at War
‘Moms at War’ was also a great movie that did well at the box office with a nice mix of comedy and drama. It starred the likes of Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele, Yul Edochie and Michelle Dede. It made an impressive N65 million.
