An Ilorin magistrates’ court in Kwara State has ordered the remand of five persons at a federal correctional centre over the abduction of the Onire of Owa-Onire, Oba Abdulrahman Ifabiyi Lawal, and his driver, Ibrahim Balogun, in Ifelodun LGA.
The suspects, Bello Abubakar, Buba Kawu, Mohammodu Sanni, Mohammadu Garba and Musa Garba, were dragged to court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping contrary to Sections 97 and 273 of the Penal Code.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victims were said to be returning from Oro town in the monarch’s Lexus SUV when the kidnappers ambushed and whisked them away.
The report reads in part: “When the armed men noticed that the monarch’s wife could not trek any longer, they released her and took the traditional ruler, his driver, together with one other person, away.”
The prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, told the court that the police and vigilantes arrested the suspects in the bush during a rescue operation and urged the court not to grant them bail.
The Magistrate, Monisola Gbadeyan Kamson, ordered their remand and adjourned to November 1.
