Five members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) who were kidnapped by gunmen on Rivers State waters penultimate Monday have been set free.
The five dockworkers were among three others who were travelling from Akuku-Toru LGA of the state to Port-Harcourt when gunmen abducted them.

Our correspondent reliably learnt that a yet-to-be ascertained amount of money, but running into several millions, was paid as ransom before they were released by their captors and following interventions by the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, and some maritime stakeholders.
In a statement by NIMASA’s Assistant Director, Public Relations, Osagie Edward, confirming the release of the abductees, he said more information would be made available to the public in due course.
