MTN Nigeria has urged all Africans across the world to continually promote the continent’s legacies as a means of preserving Africa’s rich cultures.
The General Manager, Brand and Communications, MTN Nigeria, Richard Iweanoge stated this in Abeokuta, Ogun state as the 4th edition of the African Drum Festival came to an end.
The three-day festival which was held from April 25 – 27, 2019 in Ogun state, Nigeria was hugely attended by culture enthusiasts from around the world.
The drum festival was designed to bring together participants from across the world to showcase the rich cultures of the different ethnic groups through dance, exhibitions, music and drums.
“MTN as a brand is wholly African, and it is committed to ensuring that the African story is shared with the rest of the world.
“Drums are symbolic in the African tradition. They project our strength, tell our story, protect the people and promote our legacies.
“For us, this festival is a worthy opportunity to tell the African Drum story to the rest of the world and that is why we have consistently supported the various editions of the festival,” he said.
The 2019 edition of the African Drum Festival, featured over 20 states, 14 foreign countries and 70 private troupes.
The leading telecommunication company said it supported the festival as part of its continued effort and contribution towards preserving the rich African culture.
It noted that the Drum festival is one of the numerous efforts of the telecom company in showcasing the African culture to the world.
It said it has also been at the forefront of promoting African heritage through sponsorship of indigenous festivals such as Osun Festival, Golibe Festival, Nwonyo fishing Festival.
