No fewer than 50,000 people from 484 communities are targeted to benefit from agricultural intervention under the Kano COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (KN-CARES) project as a measure aimed at cushioning the aftermath of the pandemic in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Kano, head of delivery of the project, Malam Rufa’I Halilu Ahmed, revealed that the project was a product of collaboration between the federal government of Nigeria, Kano State government and the World Bank to assist the poor, small and medium farmers in all the 44 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the intervention, which is free, targets the very poor farmers in agricultural inputs and services, agricultural infrastructure, processing and mitigating of food loss and waste, among other issues that will enhance and reduce the aftermath of the pandemic among smallholder farmers.

He further stated that the 24-month project would continue to ensure an increase in food security and safe functioning of food supply chains for poor households.
