478 banditry victims get relief materials in Sokoto

478 victims of banditry attacks, kidnappings and animal rustling in Wurno and Raba local government areas of Sokoto State have received relief materials to cushion effect of the incidents.

Speaking at the distribution of the items, the Head of Sokoto zonal office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Dr Kofoworola Soleye, noted the items to include food stuff, blankets, clothing materials, children wears, mosquito nets, soap and  building materials among others.

The NEMA Sokoto head, who was represented by the Zonal Planning Officer, Mr Tukur, revealed that the gesture was facilitated by the member representing Wurno/Raba Federal Constituency,Arc. Ibrahim Almustpha, in view  of the plight of his constituents following the incidents.

According to him, the distribution was sequel to approval made by NEMA’s Director General, AVM Mohammed Mohammed, as approved by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Sadiya Umar and President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a remark, Arc. Almustapha said about 3,000 persons were affected in 26 communities within the constituency.

The lawmaker, who was represented by Alhaji Shehu Chacho, applauded President Buhari for his prompt response.

Chairman of distribution committee, Malam Umar Ahmadu-Raba, explained that they screened 478 beneficiaries directly affected by banditry activities in the two local government areas.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Bala Ibrahim, who lost his mother in the attack, and Malam Hussani Ara expressed appreciation for the initiative.

They recounted how they lost valuables including about 60 cows to bandits after paying N1.9 million levy imposed on them.

The beneficiaries said the gesture would assist in alleviating the impact of the attacks.
