4,556 corps members take oath in Abuja

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 4556 registered corps members deployed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the 2024 Batch A Stream 2 orientation course.

The oath of allegiance was performed on Tuesday by the Honourable Chief Justice of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, who was represented by Justice Yusuf Halilu.

Delivering her welcome address during the ceremony at the permanent orientation camp in Kubwa, Abuja, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, said a total number of 4556 corps members were duly registered for the orientation course, comprising of 1831 males and 2725 females.

The FCT Coordinator advised the corps members to shun drug abuse, negative association and other anti-social acts, but instead deploy the same for the promotion of national unity and development, as any form of negative behaviour contrary to the establishment of the scheme would not be tolerated on camp and throughout the service year.

“Always ensure you obtain an official permission before embarking on any journey outside of the FCT and always remember to cut short your trips from 6:00pm and ensure you have your authentic NYSC identification at all time.”

“The regiment nature of the orientation courses, through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmes, are designed to instill discipline, physical fitness and strong leadership traits as well as entrepreneurial training for self-reliance for corps members.”

She also implored them to sustain a high level of discipline and enthusiasm, especially by complying with the camp rules and regulations.

Shokpeka thanked the Federal Capital Territory Administration for the continuous support accorded to the FCT NYSC, by providing an enabling environment required to host the orientation course.
