Speaker of the House of Representatives and Sokoto State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has pledged to give special attention to women and youth if elected.
Tambuwal, who stated this in Sokoto while addressing various support groups rooting for his election, said no nation or state can achieve any meaningful development if it abandons its women and youth.
He stressed that women and youth would form the focal point of any development agenda of his administration. He also pledged to ensure inclusive and sustainable empowerment programme for them and called on the youths to shun social vices and violence.
The speaker, who assured that opportunities would be created in various sectors such as agriculture, health, housing development and education to empower women and youths, added that he would continue with the present administration’s policy of giving them micro-credit grants and that entrepreneurship training would be introduced to enable them meet the challenges of the 21st Century.
Comrade Muhammad Shamaki and Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed who spoke on behalf of the groups, appealed to Tambuwal to ensure all challenges faced by women and youth in the state are addressed and reiterated their determination to continue to work to ensure that the APC forms the next government in the state.
