Speaking at the event, North Central Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Muhammad Abdulsalam, said the workshop was held to sensitize the public and bring together critical stakeholders and community members to dialogue, create awareness on the need to avoid post-election violence.
Abdulsalam added: “For the workshop, we had the youths, women, and faith based organizations; they too have key roles to play in the prevention of electoral violence in Nigeria. The youths have often times been used as foot soldiers in the perpetration of violence and it was important for them to be part of the peace building efforts. The women were included because they are known to be stabilizing agents in our communities and their roles cannot be underestimated when it comes to dousing tensions and conflicts.”
