423 fistula patients cured in Sokoto

Sokoto government in partnership with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has cured 423 patients suffering from fistula, the state governor’s wife, Mariya Aminu Tambuwal has disclosed.

According to her, the intervention was carried out at the Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital in 2019 and observed that obstetric fistula has remained a major health issue in Nigeria. Over 12,000 and 3,500 new cases of Vesico-Vaginal Fistula are reported each year in Nigeria and Sokoto State respectively, she stated.
