40-year-old sentenced to death for killing girlfriend in Jos

A Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, has on Tuesday, sentenced a 40-year-old man, Mr Badung David Dele, to death for killing his girlfriend, Nanchin Zacharias.

The deceased was killed on February 15, 2016.

Mr Dele was convicted by Justice Christy L. Dabup of High Court No 11, for strangulating his former lover, Miss Zacharias of Angwan Nasarawa Gwom of Jos North Local Government Area.

Mr Dele was found guilty of committing culpable homicide punishable under section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.

The defendant who earlier pleaded guilty was arrested by the Nasarawa Gwom Divisional Police Headquarters, Jos.

The presiding Judge, while passing the judgement said the court relied on three issues including a self-confessional statement of the accused person, an eyewitness account and circumstantial evidence of the witnesses.
