Ugochukwu who is the Head Coach of Anambra Cricket Team, said eight experienced coaches were invited for the training.

He said that the training comprised classroom and practical sessions to ensure basic skills were effectively impacted on the participants.

According to him, various activities were planned to help the participants improve on their skills on and off the pitch.

These he said include physical fitness, fielding drills, battling drills and umpiring decisions.

“These were long and short barriers, returns, catches and cover-ups and fielding positions.

“Others are basic cricket shots, running in-between the wickets and making calls, shot selection, setting, chasing a total.

“We also taught them the various calls in cricket and their meanings as well as career guidance because cricket is part of education,” he said

Umeh said the programme also provided the opportunity for the unveiling of the new dual carriage moveable training net donated to the state.
