4 killed in Bayelsa auto crash

Four people have been killed in an accident involving a Toyota Sienna and a tricycle in Famgbe II community along the Yenagoa-Oporoma road, Bayelsa State.

The accident occurred on Monday evening when the Sienna veered off its lane and crashed into the tricycle which had passengers on board.

Witnesses told Daily Trust that the Sienna was heading towards Oporoma while the tricycle was returning to Yenagoa.

The casualties were the tricycle driver and three of his passengers, while the occupants of the Sienna were unharmed.

Residents said heavy rainfall and poor visibility, along with a bend known for accidents, contributed to the crash.

Also, the state’s 7pm tricycle operation ban might have led to the tricycle driver rushing to avoid penalties.

Bayelsa State police spokesman, ASP Musa Mohammed, said he was unaware of the accident.
