4 killed as rival cult groups clash over political largesse

At least four persons were killed at Swali area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, when rival cult groups engaged in a fight over the sharing of money given to them by politicians.

The clash came barely two days after the Yenagoa community placed a ban on cult activities in the area.

According to a source, those killed were suspected to be members of the two rival cult groups in the area: Dey-Well and Bobos.

City & Crime gathered that while three persons were killed at Swali community, one was gunned down in the early hours of Sunday on Osiri Road in Ekeki community.

The recent upsurge in cult clashes in Yenagoa metropolis has created fear in the residents of the city who now most times remain indoors to avoid being robbed or harmed.

Confirming the incident, police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, said operatives had already arrested four suspects in connection to the cult clashes and that two cultists died during the clash.
