Four people were on Thursday afternoon killed in a road accident along Gboko – Makurdi highway in Benue State.
Our correspondent reports that 15 other occupants of the vehicle were involved in the lone accident were injured and had been taken to the hospital.

Witnesses said that the occupants of the vehicles were mainly women of Catholic Church extraction who were returning from a burial.
“The vehicle was on motion when it suddenly lost control, veered off the road and hit a tree,” a witness said.
Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benue State, Yakubu Mohammed, told newsmen in Makurdi that the accident occurred about 11:48 am at a distance of one kilometre close to the NYSC camp in Wannune in Tarka Local Government Area of the state.
“The crash occurred on Thursday around 1148hrs. Only one vehicle was involved, a Toyota Hiace. There were 19 people in the vehicle out of which 18 are females and one male adult.
“So, the number of injured persons are 15 while the number of those who were killed are four. Both the injured and the dead have been taken to St. Christopher Hospital and NKST Hospital, both in Annunne,” he said.
Mohammed blamed the cause of the accident on overspeeding, urging motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules in order to avoid accidents.
