Kidnappers have abducted four persons, shot and wounded a middle-aged man identified as Alhaji Umar at a Fulani camp in Gada-Biyu village, Kwali Area Council, Abuja.
A resident of Gada-Biyu simply identified as Muazu, said the incident happened around 9:30pm on Monday, when the kidnappers invaded the community shooting sporadically during which a bullet hit one person in the leg.
He said the gunshot sound attracted the attention of the vigilante members, who engaged the hoodlums in a shootout forcing the kidnappers to flee.
“When the vigilante members overpowered them, they fled from Gada-Biyu and went to attack a Fulani settlement a few metres from the village and abducted four herders,” he said.
According to him, the injured victim had gone out to buy some drugs at a nearby chemist when he was hit by the kidnappers’ stray bullet.
The victim was taken to Rhema Hospital in Kwali for treatment, adding that the police led by the Kwali Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Tony Obiano, later arrived at the community with his men and shot sporadically into the air and left after about 20 minutes.
The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Maryam Yusuf, did not pick calls or reply to a text message sent to her phone to confirm the kidnapping incident.
Also, kidnappers, yesterday abducted two Chinese nationals at the gold mining site in Okepa/Itikan, Ifewara Community, Osun State.
Sources at the site told Daily Trust that the victims were 50-year-old Mr Wen Xi and 33-year-old Zhao Jian.
The kidnappers shot the security operatives guarding the Chinese nationals.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, DSP Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, saying policemen have been deployed to rescue the victims.
She said the security personnel shot by the kidnappers have been taken to hospital.
He said a combined reinforcement of Police Tactical units (JTF) and other security outfits have been drafted to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers.
