Four persons were feared dead following a heavy downpour which destroyed many properties in two local government areas of Sokoto State.
The local government areas were Gada and Goronyo where over 4000 persons were said to be affected.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Abubakar Ghani, said it occurred on Saturday after a night’s rainfall which destroyed houses in 10 villages across Gada Local Government Area.
The villages were Kadadi, Gilbadi, Ila/Duka-Maje, Tsitse, Kiri, Kyadawa, Wauru and Kasassaka.
According to him, three persons, including a woman and her baby died at Kiri Hayi after their house collapsed on them while an elderly man was lost at Kadadi village.
“Our men are still at the villages, assessing the damage caused by the rain,” he said
Ghani explained that many livestock were lost in Goronyo but there was no report of loss of human life in the area.
Similarly, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto office confirmed the incident but said it was yet to compile the number of affected persons.
