A one storey building housing an Islamic school yesterday collapsed on pupils, killing four children in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) yesterday confirmed four dead and five injured but sources within the community said the figure was likely to rise.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident at Abu Naib Islamic School along Gero road in Bukuru took place as children were receiving Islamic lessons.
Alhaji Danlami Muhammad, a witness, said about 40 children were inside the building when it collapsed, adding that the number could have been more but for the rainfall which prevented some children from attending. He said the school is a secondary school but used on weekends to for Islamic lessons.
The North Central Zonal coordinator of NEMA, Muhammad Abdulsalam, said; “So far four children have been confirmed dead while five others sustained injuries and have been taken to the specialist hospital. Our men are still carrying out rescue mission and by tomorrow (today) I will give you the details”.
