4 arrested for diverting N20m goods

The suspects were arrested by a police patrol team attached to Department of Operations, Lagos State Command, who acted on a tip off.
Daily Trust also gathered that another police patrol team attached to Ojokoro division, on the same day intercepted a Volkswagen Golf with Reg. No. LSD 220 CP, driven by one Akeem Shonde along Alagbado road.
Police said when the vehicle was searched, one Russian-made single-barrel rifle and 11 rounds of ammunition were found.
Confirming the arrest, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said during interrogation, the suspects admitted to robbing one Ganiyu Mustapha of his trailer with registration number, LSD 782 XB.
“They diverted the goods the victim was carrying to an unknown destination. The value of the goods was put at about N20 million,” he added.
Nwosu said the suspects hijacked the truck and also collected three phones from their victim at Sarant Steel Company, Kirikiri, Lagos.
He said efforts are on to arrest fleeing members of the gang and that the case has been transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
