39-year-old cultist arrested over attack on policemen in Lagos

Detectives from the Lagos State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) have arrested a 39-year-old cult gang member, Akinyemi Akintoye, over an attack on a policeman in December 2023.

The suspect along with others had, on December 8, 2023, allegedly attacked a police patrol team around Ayobo area of Ipaja, injuring one of the policemen in the process.

It was learnt that the injured officer had sustained a deep cut on his head in the attack, which the police described as unprovoked.

While some members of the gang were arrested, Akinyemi bolted away after leading his gang to attack the officer.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest.

Hundeyin said his arrest followed weeks of manhunt by policemen from Ipaja Police Station.

“After weeks on the run, Akinyemi Akintayo aged 39yrs of Ayobo has been arrested and arraigned for his serious assault on police officers on December 8, 202,” he added.
