A total of 377 public and private primary schools in Delta State have registered to compete in this year’s Zenith Bank sponsored Delta State Headmasters’ Cup competition billed to commence on Thursday, September 30.
The sponsor of the annual Delta Principals/Headmasters’ Cup, Zenith Bank Plc, has since renewed its commitment to the grassroots tournaments.
While the Principals’ Cup which will kick off on October 7 at St Patrick School, Asaba, is in its fifth year, the Headmasters’ Cup is having its third edition.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday in Asaba, to usher in this year’s events, Senior Manager, Zenith Bank, Ijeoma Okowa, who represented the CEO/GMD of the bank, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, said the Zenith Bank is happy to invest in sports as part of its corporate social reasonability.
He also said considering the present security situation in the country, the bank wants to positively engage the youths.
“Zenith as a brand takes Corporate Social Responsibilities very seriously. We don’t just make profits at the bank, we make sure part of the profit returns to the society and one of the ways we have chosen over the years is sports development, especially grassroots,” he said.
The Commissioner for Primary Education, Chika Ossai, who spoke for himself and the commissioner for Secondary Education, Rose Ezewu said the two competitions have made appreciable progress.
He also thanked Zenith Bank for being the sole sponsor of both competitions which were previously sponsored by the Delta State government.
